Digital Learning Information

We are all adjusting to our new routine, working and learning from home.  As a team, the 5th grade is committed to continuing the academic learning goals, rigorous instruction, and support.  We will update our class blogs daily with the class lessons, activities, and instructions by 9:00 am.  If your child has more than one teacher, please visit the blog for each of the teachers to get all of the appropriate lessons.  We will also be online and able to answer any academic questions or concerns from 9:00 am to 10:30 am daily.  You can access Cobb Digital Library on a device through the MackinVIA app, or at home using https://cobb.mackinvia.com  Students may also access Cobb Public Library resources by using their student ID as their library card number. The PIN is their birthday in 4-digit format (2-digit month and 2-digit day). For more information, visit https://www.cobblibrarymedia.com/library-pass.html OR

Stay healthy and happy.  Work hard at home and we will see everyone soon!

Notes from Mrs. Bernier

From Ms. Bernier, school counselor for 5th Grade students:

During my classroom lessons in the last couple of months, I have focused on many of the topics from the assembly we held on Peace Day in September. We had a 40-minute multi-media presentation which was motivational and inspiring. It was displayed on huge screens and was accompanied by upbeat music. It covered many important subjects including the following:

STEM projects

Spreading Kindness

Community Outreach

Bullying

Peer Pressure

Healthy Choices

Drug Prevention

Self-confidence

Principles of Good Character

If you would like to view the presentation in a smaller format on a computer, here is the link:

The title of the presentation is “Yes, We Can”.

In addition, we have worked on Listening Skills, Respect, Responsibility, and Substance Abuse.

It was so wonderful to have the opportunity to talk to all of you at conferences last week!
Looking forward to the Fall Festival!!

Davis Elementary 5th Grade

2019-2020 School year

Welcome to the best year ever!

Please look around the grade level website to familiarize yourself with the contents.  We will post the standards we will be learning, important dates on the calendar, and our email and blog links for you to contact us.  Please also visit your classroom site for more individualized content.

Note from Ms. Bernier

Ms. Bernier will be your child’s school counselor this year.  She will conduct lessons in all fifth-grade classrooms every two to three weeks.  She has been in the process of meeting students new to Davis in small group sessions in order to welcome and ease the transition to a new school. Please take the time to complete the following survey. It should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and will help the counselors identify the greatest needs at Davis.  Thank you in advance for your participation.

  • When visiting your child for lunch we have a guest table for you and your child.  Please do not bring friends or other students to this table.

  • Special treats should be sent to the classroom ahead of time.  Treats should keep potential student allergies in mind.

  • No party favors, cakes, candles, or gifts will be brought to the cafeteria.

  • Fast food is not allowed in the cafeteria.

Notes from the Office

  • Have your drivers license available for checking in...you will state your name and your business at the buzzer at the front door, and when buzzed in proceed to the front office to sign in via our electronic system.

  • Students should be in the classroom by 7:50 to avoid tardiness

  • Notes regarding student absences must be received within 3 days of the absence.  Attendance letters are sent after 5 and 7 unexcused absences.  Teachers remind parents after 3 unexcused absences.

  • Forgotten items:  please bring important items (such as glasses, lunches) to the front office and we will deliver them to the classrooms.  Students will not be allowed to call for forgotten homework or other personal items (snack, reward items, etc)

  • Bus:

  • Notify teachers of transportation changes through written notes

  • In order to ride a different bus students must have a note and obtain a bus pass from the front office

  • Students under 9 require a yellow tag which indicates someone must meet them at the bus stop for the driver to release them.  If no one meets the student they will be returned to school and we will call.  The student will be placed in ASP if no one is reached.

  • Car:

  • To expedite our morning carpool line, please stay in the carpool line and have students ready with backpacks etc. to exit the vehicle on the right side by the sidewalk

  • In the afternoon, refrain from meeting car riders/walkers in the lobby area

  • Please know student safety is our first priority.  When in doubt, students will be kept at school in ASP until you can be reached.

  • All classroom volunteers must complete a FERPA form (confidentiality).  Look for more information through PTA e-blast/on the Davis website.

  • Communicate any changes in your volunteer schedule with teachers ASAP.

  • Ensure you are wearing your visitor badge at all times-understand that staff have been asked to inquire and direct you to the office if you are not wearing a badge.
